I'm Taking Up the Challenge

Donna, over at Funky Junk Interiors has issued an "I Can Do it" Challenge to tackle a project that your "little voice" keeps nagging you to get done. It can be a DIY or non-DIY related.  I so needed this kick in the bloomers.  If it were up to me I'd do fun projects, crafts and blog all day long.  My family would never eat, my bathrooms would be condemned, and the laundry would reach the ceiling.

Fortunately, I like to eat, can't stand to live in filth, and I do laundry every other day to keep on top of it.  What gives in this house is the clutter.  So I am taking up the challenge and going through my house, top to bottom, on the prowl for clutter.  Ummm...I don't have to look very far.  My office, which I am sitting in right now, is one of the worst offenders.  I'm very good at staring at this computer monitor and ignoring the mess behind me.  It's. Got. To. Stop!

I've got my office, entire upstairs and the basement to declutter.  The challenge ends on June 14th.  I started on my bedroom (upstairs) today.  Because of my adult onset ADD tendency to get side-tracked, I am breaking several hours a day into 15 minute segments.  Using a timer, I spend 15 minutes on decluttering, 15 minutes doing routine stuff, like rebooting and folding laundry, throwing supper in the oven, vacuuming etc., 15 more minutes decluttering, then 15 on blogging.  Am I freaking you out with the timer thing?  I know, I know...I'm a little weird...but it works for me.

A friend has offered to let me set up a yard sale with her this summer.  She lives in town in a perfect location...I live in the country.  Garage sales out here just don't get enough traffic to make it worthwhile.  So I'm stacking boxes and bags in one end of the basement as I declutter.  When I get it all done, I'll take a picture of the mountain  pile of stuff!

I will still spend some time on fun projects...my reward for all the hard work.  I really sound like a five year old don't I?...timers and rewards.  Please don't answer that.  I don't want to know.  Oops...time's up.  Gotta go reboot the laundry, then head back upstairs.  I do have a project I started yesterday that I plan to finish today.  I'll post it when it's done.  Later gater!

  2. Thanks for stopping by today. See, I missed this post too amongst all the chaos! The timer thing could work for me as long as the baby is asleep. Have fun de-cluttering. It's so refreshing!
