Gitter Done Challenge - The Office

Today's the day. The deadline for the Gitter Done Challenge - Volume 1 - over at Funky Junk Interiors.  Donna issued this challenge about a week and a half ago.  As usual, I bit off more than I could chew.  But I had a goal and went for it.  If I'd had no goal...nothing would have gotten done.  So I am pretty pleased with what I accomplished, considering it is the countdown to VBS and I've been juggling all that and a household too.

My original goal was to declutter the upstairs (hall closets, craft area and my bedroom), the office and the basement.  What was I thinking!  What I accomplished was my bedroom and the office.  The other spaces will have to wait until after VBS...like at least a week after, as I plan to crash for the week following!

When you see the before pictures of the office/school/business/some craft/anything room, maybe you will understand...or run screaming from your monitor to call social services on me!  Let's just say, prepare yourself.  And just a disclaimer...most of my house does not look like this...honest.

Ahem...I had a third picture of the desk area.  I have no idea what happened to it...I think it broke my camera.  Anyway, to quote Niecy from Clean House...it was a Hot Mess!

Keep in mind this was just a declutter job.  It is still ugly, but so much more functional.  Pretty will come later. Here it is the after:

No more boxes on the floor!!! Ahhh...the room can breath again.  I could give you a hundred excuses for why/how it got that way...and they would all be legit.  But they would still be excuses.  I just needed to Gitter Done!

I also decluttered my bedroom too, but no pictures for now.  I'll post those after I remodel it and show you the before and after.  You can only take so much ugly at one time.    It was not nearly as messy as this, just needed decluttering and moving some things around.  I posted about that here.

And one more project I did this week. I planted the garden.   It wasn't so much procrastination, but it's been very wet and my husband had to till it...so I waited.  Finally it is in...and it looks like a graveyard right now.

I am linking this up to Donna's Gitter Done Challenge.  Go see what everyone else has been up to.  There's been some major accomplishments this week!

  1. WOW!! That was no small undertaking! You deserve to be so proud of yourself! It's my guess you find blogging alot more enjoyable now (if that's your blog area that is). I feel the same way. If my surroundings are mass mayhem, I feel jittery.

And whadda garden! Will you need another GD to weed it too?!? :) What a fantastic yield that must produce!

I'm so glad GD gave you the boost you needed! Enjoy your office!

  7. You know, I'm glad you posted those before pictures because we ALL have rooms that look that way from time to time. There is nothing like the feeling you get from decluttering, I hope you gave yourself a giant pat on the back!

  8. Thanks everyone. It was quite a daunting task, but I worked on it 15-30 minutes at a time several times a day for several days. That way I didn't get overwhelmed and quit. I have walked into the office several times today just to enjoy it...and I feel so much calmer in there now, rather than stressed.

Meredith I really hesitated to post those before pictures. It was pretty embarrassing, but if it helps someone else realize they are not alone and it can be done...then all is good.

  9. Whoa, you had some serious de-cluttering going on there! It turned out really organized and neat looking. Can you find things now? LOL
I get bogged down sometimes and then spend waaay more time cleaning it up all at once. If I had just spent a few minutes tidying up each time I was in the room, it would have been easier. Will I ever learn?! "grin*

  10. What a huge difference! It's like a weight is lifted isn't it? I know the feeling. I just did a closet but my desk in in need now.

Love you huge garden. I would be happy with just those raised beds!

  11. That is one major before and after! Once we start dumping something somewhere it becomes clutter magnet central doesn't it. You must have done some major purging to get it to look this great.
    Wonderful job.

  15. I could see the hint of an organizational sense in the before pictures. You had an idea of what you wanted to be doing, just ran out of time and things piled on top of the organization. Wonderful job. If you can take 15 min a week to keep it that way...
Finding those 15 min.s is the tough part.
I love all the shelf space you have. That is my dream.

  17. Hi Deborah-

I loved the comment you left on my blog about your garden looking like a graveyard. I smiled bigtime when I was reading your post on how you organized your office/craft space and then scrolled down and saw your garden shot. You have a lot planted. Your markers are classic and fucntional. Hopefully with all the rain you have been getting your garden will produce a bumper crop this year.
    My best- Diane
