Fleur de Lis Tray

My bookcase project is coming along slowly. The last two days of rain put a bit of a damper on it. I was so pumped to get it done, that I decided to use my Zinser BIN primer in the back room. Bad idea...think I killed a few brain cells...and I need every last one of those suckers!

Stupid, I know. I will wait for a sunny day and prime the second bookcase outside. I did get the first bookcase painted. I need to finish lightly distressing it and wait for the Briwax I ordered to arrive. I've never used it before, but I love what I've seen on other blogs.

In the meantime I grabbed a resin tray that I bought at a garage sale or thrift store some time ago. I can't remember where...must be with those missing brain cells. I primed, painted and lightly sanded the high points.

Here's the before, pretty scratched up, but I love the fleur de lis design.

After spray primer and 3 light coats of heirloom white:

After sanding:

It will probably go in my kitchen when I get "The Wall" finished.  I'll explain "The Wall" in a later post.

  1. I bet you can get those brain cells back after time. Your tray looks great.

I do that too, paint and prime inside, not the smartest but I am impatient. :) I think it is supposed to nice this weekend...hopefully. :)

  3. I love it in white, it's so pretty. I know what you mean about those brain cells...I know I killed a few of mine during my last project when I painted and used polycrylic in my basement. I get too impatient for a nice day to come along; I just want to finish up my projects NOW!

  6. Hello stranger!!

I love this tray. It's turned out simply beautifully. I don't think I'd have thought of spraying it - but you did a FAB job!

  8. I would never have known this was a resin tray- it looks fantastic all painted and distressed! Isn't it fun to find someone that clicks with you and the two of you can go out and have fun w/your common interests? There is a small contingent of Buckeye Bloggers that get together periodically or even one on one, even though we don't live close by. That is fun too. :-) Looking forward to see more of your projects.
