Coop Details and a Tip for Hanging a Rooster

We will only be hanging a tin rooster today.  No animals were harmed in the making of this post :)  As most of you guessed, my repurposed playhouse is a chicken coop.  If you didn't see it you can read about it here.  I found some great items at Hobby Lobby to jazz it up a bit.  All of them were half off.  My favorite is the metal rooster.  I hung him in the peak of the coop, facing the house.  Stick with me and in a minute I'll share a tip about how I hung him.

He has this hook that I can hang a rake or other tool from to tidy inside the coop.

When I came across this metal sign, I had to have it!  I think it's a hoot!

The door had a hook to close it, but it needed a doorknob to pull it shut.  I love this knob that looks like an old water faucet.

The rooster has two keyhole hooks to hang it from.  I've always hated them because it is so hard to get them level.  I recently saw a tip, I don't remember where, to use tape to mark it.  I took it one step further, because if you are off by even a little, it won't work.

Rather than just run tape across and try to get the tape cut exactly right, I put the tape right across the holes, then stuck the screws into the hole where it would to hang from.

Then I stuck my tape on the coop.  I just eyeballed where I wanted it, but I would recommend measuring.  The rooster's head just cleared the rafter at the top!

Next I drilled pilot holes right through the holes in the tape.

See?

All that was left to do was put in the screws and hang my new friend.  I hope the lady hens like him as much as I do!

I've linked to the great parties:
