Burlap Wrapped Herbs and Giveaway Winner!

Last week was pretty much a bust.  I got sick on Sunday with a miserable cold and spent Monday thru Wednesday pretty much flat out.  I still have a hacking cough.  Thursday through tonight I've been busy from morning to night with homeschool group (I'm teaching a jewelry making class), an out of town field trip, company on Saturday and church followed by our Fall Fest at church camp tonight. Whew!  I've barely had time to blink!

There's nothing like company coming to kick my hiney into clean-up/spruce-up mode.  Saturday had me cleaning and adding fall touches to my decor.   These little pots of parsley and basil were growing outside all summer.  They were fine out there, but I decided to bring them in for some fresh herbs this winter.  The pots were just ugly plastic nursery planters.

Burlap to the rescue!  I had a couple of scraps from making pillows, so I wrapped the pots in them.  I wanted a quick cover-up so here's how I went about it:

I used an ordinary permanent marker and just wrote directly on the burlap.

I centered the word where I wanted it and ran a short bead of hot glue under the rim.

The raw edge of the raw burlap slid up nicely under the rim.  I continued gluing around the rim toward the back, trimming off excess burlap as needed.

I pulled the burlap tight so it wrapped at an angle around the pot, ran a bead of hot glue at the back and pressed one side down.

Next I trimmed the excess burlap at the rim, then wrapped the other side around, gluing as I went, then trimmed off the excess.

At this point I put plunked them in this wire basket I picked up somewhere (Hobby Lobby?) this summer, but they seemed unfinished to me.

After digging around in my stash for a few minutes, I found some ribbon I liked, and just hot glued it along the rim.  I left it loose along the bottom.

Ahh...much better!

  5. What a terrific idea! My herbs are sitting on the window seat just looking green and sweet in their plain pots. They would be so much happier in those pretty burlap-covered pots! :-) Off to find the burlap.
