Repurpose Old Ice Skates

Happy New Year my friends!  I've been on a blogging break.  We had a wonderful Christmas with several celebrations with family.  Then we had a sad event, with the passing of my husbands aunt. Although it was sad, she had been suffering terribly, and we know she is in a better place with no more pain.

After New Years we had sickness, with a trip to the emergency room and later a doctor visit for my youngest.  He is much better now and I am so ready to return to blogging!

I shared some of my new decorations before Christmas, but there are a few I still have up my sleeve. I've seen lots of skates used for Christmas decor and really would have loved to have an old wooden sled to hang them from, but since I didn't, I hung them beside our back door.  I think they make great winter decor too, so they will be staying for a while.

I used Outdoor Mod Podge to coat the skates before sprinkling large sized glitter on them.  It looks almost like sparkling snow.

After replacing old dirty laces with jute twine, I tied some jingle bells on the tips of the laces, then stuffed some floral foam inside the skates and pushed clippings from our Christmas tree into it, along with some faux berries.

I love how the greenery catches real snow.  We've certainly had plenty of that around here!

~ Have a blessed and Happy New Year ~

  1. I love your skates! I have a pair here I picked up at a yard sale a couple of years ago...and have yet to do a thing with them. I love what you have done with yours...and I didn't know they made mod podge for out doors? Thanks for sharing!

  3. Your skates are fabulous! I don't think I could even find a pair of ice skates here on the Gulf Coast, but now I am on a mission to find some. The glitter was the perfect touch!

  9. Deborah....this look is one of my favorites for Christmas and the winter months. :) I love how you changed out the shoelaces to twin. What a great way to add texture and interest.

I'm so sorry that you experienced loss of a dear one over the holidays and an emergency room visit. Hopefully, things will even out and you'll have some smooth sailing ahead. [hugs]

  14. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful ice skates. I just finished my set this week and fashioned them after yours. I absolutely love the way they turned out and the fact that I will now always have them to remember my familiy's love of ice skating!
