What We Accomplished Wednesday #56

First I want to thank all our wonderful military personel and veterans and their families for the selfless sacrifice they have made to serve and protect our country.  You are truly the spirit of America. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It's time to party!  May and June are just naturally party months aren't they?  Between graduations, Memorial Day, Mother's Day, baby and wedding showers it is a little crazy sometimes.

I hope your weekend was full of fun, family and laughter!  This past weekend, our daughter was home for a quick visit. We had a busy day on Sunday trying to pack everything in that we wanted to do.  After church we went out to lunch at a local Chinese buffet we love called Hunan's.  After returning home and vegging for a short while, we went for a walk in the woods on local trail.

Notice the lack of leaves on the trees.  This was taken this past Sunday.  Never in my memory have the leaves been so late in the year.

We are such a serious family.  Can you tell?

Here's a serious one for ya.  I look like I swallowed a sour lemon!

 I love flowers so I snapped a couple of photos of these pretty woodland flowers.  This first one is a Trillium.  The woods are full of them this spring.

This second one I can't identify, but I love the little pink flowers.  The smaller leaves are the ones the flowers belong to.  Anyone care to enlighten me as to what they are called?

Later in the evening we had our parents over for a bonfire.  Of course, we had our first smore's of the season, along with some yummy watermelon.  It was all over too quickly as we had to take Jamie back over to Gaylord to meet her ride the next morning.  We met with friends for lunch there, said our goodbye's and headed back home.

I am loving these ruffled curtains made by Teresa, at Magazine Your Home.  They are similar to my dropcloth curtains,  but in a light and airy muslin.  Perfect for summer!

Cindy, from Glass Slipper Restorations, transformed an old bench with paint and stencils.  What a pretty place to sit and take off your shoes!

Isn't this stepped table with all the mini drawers adorable?  I love the colors that Cathy, from Vintage, Paint and More chose to use on this and another little end table that you will have to visit her to see!

Think built-in bookcases are beyond your capabilities?  Think again!  Kat, from Homemade Interest, shares just how they got this look with Billy bookcases from Ikea.  Amazing!

Oh to be a kid again and have a tree house like this!  I want one myself!!  Wouldn't it be fun to decorate?  Summer, from Outdoor Kid, takes you on a tour of this awesome structure her family built together.

It's finally warming up here in northern Michigan. Wahoo! I got to spend an hour yesterday working in my flower beds and got all around the deck cleaned out and trimmed up.  There's more to do, but it felt so good to get out and dig in the earth!

Mushroom season is also here in this neck of the woods.  I am not a huge fan of morel mushrooms, but my parents are and dad wanted to go mushroom hunting.  With a weak heart, I won't let him go into the woods alone.  Up here there are miles of woods that would be so easy to get lost in.  Of course we took a compass and a GPS!  It's a good thing to, because everytime we thought we were going in the right direction we were way off.  It hasn't been warm enough to really pop them up until the last two days, so we are going again Tuesday morning (I'm typing this Monday night).

I've also been busy making things for my shop and already had a couple of sales, which sent me scrambling for ideas for packaging because I decided I didn't like my original ideas...yeah, I'm fickle sometimes.  I added these fun and functional work aprons to my shop this week.

This wisdom based theme is such a cool idea for a graduation party.  Cindy from DIY Beautify had some awesome ideas for her son's party.  I love the wisdom tree and "pillars of education!" Her chalkboard is great too.

Celestina, of Southern Daydreams, shared her beautiful master bedroom and bath updates. Isn't it pretty? Her neutral background lets her add in whatever colors she wants.

I love this sweet vanity, brought back from the brink by Melanie, at Lost and Found Decor. She used milk paint in a color called dried lavender.  I love the color and the name!

Andi, from Delusions of Ingenuity, painted this wingback chair while her husband was out of town. Didn't it turn out fabulous? You have to go read her story...she is hilarious!

I am one of those rare people who dislike the smell of lilacs.  As in it makes me sick.  But I adore the way they look and the color.  I just have to enjoy them from a distance. Janet from Rosemary and Thyme, set a beautiful table with all the colors of her lilacs.  Isn't it dreamy?

We are a family on the go these days, and as much as I love to have a sit down dinner with all of us around the table, the reality is that it just doesn't happen very often at this stage in our lives.  So when I saw this Asian chicken salad recipe share by Nici, of Posed Perfection, I knew it would be perfect for fixing ahead so that everyone can eat when they show up.  It sound delicious!

Does the day ever just get away from you? I was so busy making aprons and taking pictures for my Etsy shop that I completely forgot to get my post ready for our party! Having a duh moment here. Better late than never right? So let's get right into it!

I absolutely fell in love with Kris' office from Junk Chic Cottage! Every little last chippy detail. Just look at this door divider she used for seperation of space. Head over to see the actual office!

Heather, from Southern Abbey updated her living room with lots of white paint and new flooring.  I love how fresh and modern the room looks now!

Check out the pretty wall treatment and all the lovely details of Cindy's bedroom from Diy Beautify!  Love that hanging lamp too!

Lacey, from Feathering My Nest, is going to be holding a workshop on how to make these awesome book planters.  She gives us a sneak peek.  Aren't they fun?

There are so many ways to create hand lettering, but I'm a visual learner, so I found this video tutorial from Pamela, of Flower Patch Farmhouse, super helpful.

I'm not a huge mint fan, but occasionally I have a big craving for chocolate mint.  Nicole from Picnic shared her recipe for mint chocolate New York style cheesecake.  It has my mouth watering just looking at it!

Propogating Succulents

I happened to be in Walmart the other day in the garden section, when I spied one of these same succulents. I popped that sweet thing in my cart, took it home and tore it all apart.  I know, Lacey and I are ruthless. Now I'm waiting for this to happen.

Because from my one plant, I hope to get many. There are so many awesome succulent ideas in blogland. It's high time I join the crowd!

They are babies in waiting. Hopefully they will survive the trauma!

The sun is shining!  It is still only 45 degrees with a high of 50 predicted, but I'll take it as long as the sun is shining...and it is supposed to all day. If I seem abnormally excited, well I am, after days and days of cold, wet, gloomy days.

My parents arrived home from Florida late last night. I worked last night, so I haven't seen them yet (as of this morning). Can't wait to get over there later today! Say a prayer for them would you? While on their way home, their van was broken into at a motel. The back windows were smashed in and the crooks took their time taking lots of valuable things. They are both okay (it happened while they were safe sleeping in their room), but now they have to deal with insurance claims and police reports.

If you missed it, I posted about my drop cloth flowers I've been making. I love wearing one on my jean jacket.

The tradition of surprising neighbors with May Day baskets is something my family never did. In fact I've not heard of many around here that do this.  But what a delightful tradition. I will be the first to admit that the art of cake decorating completely escapes me. But I think, maybe, just maybe I could do this. Kat, from Homemade Interest shows how easy it is to create these petals with balls of frosting. The cake sounds absolutely delicious too!

Drop Cloth Fabric Flower Pins

One of the things I made to sell at craft fairs and on Etsy are these fabric flower pins.  I love the ragged edges and the little pop of sparkle from the rhinestone buttons.  I wear one on the lapel of my jean jacket.  They can be used anywhere you can pin them to.

They are fun on purses, collars, aprons, headbands and whatever else you can dream up.

So far I have made them in natural drop cloth, blue and red.

More colors will be coming soon.

 I use drop cloth canvas that I have specially washed as the backdrop for all these flower pins.

The colored flowers also have a layer of home dec fabric as the top petals. 

 I tear fabric squares until my hands ache.  Then I start with one square as the base to sew the petal to.

Using eight more squares, I fold them diagonally, twice to create my petals.

Then I sew them one by one onto the base and to each other, going around in circles.

I use these beautiful rhinestone buttons to add some sparkle.

Finally I hot glue a pin or bobby pin back to each flower.  They can also be left with no backing so they can be glued to anything.

I love wearing one on my vendor apron, also available in my Etsy store.  

Some flowers, some bling, and I'm a happy girl!
