So while I wait for paint to dry, I thought I'd sneak in a post about a ton of flea market treasures I found. I noticed the sign on my way to pick up Tyler from work last Saturday afternoon. So after picking him up, I stopped in for "a quick look around." Famous last words.
As soon as I walked in the door, the owner announced that everything, except for a few select pieces, was free. I think my jaw hit the floor. I said, "Seriously?" My heart began beating faster and my mouth began to water. I think my eyes about popped out of my head. There was a LOT of stuff in that place!
Apparently she holds this flea market every weekend all summer (which I didn't know, because Tyler usually doesn't work weekends). Then the last weekend or two, anything left is free, because she hauls the rest to Salvation Army or Goodwill.
I was the only one there...hellooo! It was all I could do not to break out into the happy dance. Poor Tyler, I told him I'd just be a minute, then I had him hauling boxes to the car! Love ya Tyler!
Okay I'll get on with the pictures now and try to shut-up. Warning...lots of pictures coming up! Oh...and the stuff is pretty dirty. I didn't even take time to clean it yet...just grabbed the camera and started clicking.
The metal on this basket looks like galvanized that's been hammered. Not sure. There's a flower imprint in the bottom.
I think a dry brush technique on this wastebasket would be pretty.
The hamper and wood box will get painted. I got the picture for the frame.
The hamper has a wooden lid with a neat metal detail on each side
Wire and raw wood. Be still my heart!
I have been looking for a wooden tray or shallow box all summer! This one is perfect!
I love the shape of this wire lamp shade frame!
These corbels may get pulled apart to use the pieces in seperate projects. I've got some ideas!
This green tray is really gorgeous...I may just add some glaze and leave it. We'll see.
I like the wide frame on this...and even like the little carved horse...donkey? I just don't like them together. I'll have to see what I can do with this.
The metal tray will definitely get painted!
I've seen scales all over blogland. This one is a little different. It was a baby scale. Someone had put a sticker on it that said "fish scale." Ewwwww! It will get a really good scrubbing with some bleach! Then I think I'll change the face of the scale somehow. The tin pail will get painted.
This is a little quirky. It's part wire, part round reed. I'm still pondering what I will do with it.
It's hard to see, but these plates are the palest pink, with a silver rim. Love that.
Finally a trio of little teacups.
I didn't do a very good job of shutting up did I? But can you blame me? My project list just grew,...by a lot! But can you blame me?

Free?? Oh my goodness. I think my heart would have been racing too. I love those corbels. Love! You got a lot of great stuff. What a lucky stop you made :)
ReplyDeleteYou made out like a bandit. lol From the prices she was practically giving the stuff away to begin with. I'd have bought many of the items at the price she had on them and would definitely have grabbed them for free.
ReplyDeleteWow, you really had a great day. I love the green tray!
ReplyDeleteWow! You really hit the jackpot! I love the corbels and the green tray.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Amazing find! You are truely blessed. Enjoy your projects!
ReplyDeleteWoW!! How lucky are you. I am glad I didn't see something like that. I am stash busting but Wow!! I love some of the stuff you found.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! Yes Carla, I am truly blessed. When I stopped, I had a $3 limit, since I'd already blown my wad on paint and bedding for my son's room this month.
ReplyDeleteIt was like a junker's Christmas! I felt like I was stealing, but this wonderful lady kept handing me boxes and pointing out things I'd missed. She truly just wanted to get rid of the stuff. I did spend my $3 though, on a Playstation game for my son. Those were not free, and I was happy to give her that!
Holy cow!! how cool was that???!!!! You sure pulled some neat stuff out of that shop. Anxious to see what you do with it all.

ReplyDeleteWow! You hit the jackpot! Love them all, but that scale is awesome! I also love the chrysanthemum on the metal tray.
ReplyDeleteOMG that is sooo much better than finding a free pile at the curb! I love everything you got and can't wait to see what you do with it. I have one of those baby scales too. Always mean to put towels rolled up in the top and use it in the bathroom, just never got around to it. Hmmm, I should go do that now.....
