Kitchen Countdown: Day 2

Now I remember why I never wanted to paint my cabinets again. It's a ton of work. I know it will be worth it in the end though. Already things are looking brighter and a lot better. Take a peek:

It doesn't look like I got a lot more done. Then why am I so sore? Today I primed 2 coats on all the upper cabinets and doors. I also removed the base cabinet doors and washed everything really well. I will prime the base cabinets tomorrow.

It'll be a short day tomorrow. I'm taking my daughter to work, then running to ACE to pick up some supplies. Then it's back home to prime the rest of the cabinets and hopefully the strips of MDF that I am going to use to frame out the doors.

I'll have to wrap it up early, scrub paint off myself, and get ready to go back to town to pick up Jamie. She and I are going to dinner and a play that one of her friends is in. Like I have time for that, but hey...when my daughter asks me to go out with her...I'm in.

Countdown to a Renewed Kitchen: Day 1

Long time no blog. I have been busy, but have nothing spectacular to show yet. After scraping, priming, and painting the kitchen and living room ceilings, getting the garden in, weeding flower beds, planting 50 badrillion flowers in pots (which I swore I wasn't going to do this year), running my business, preparing for church camp and spending a week camping in the rain, I'm finally getting a start on my kitchen makeover.  Wanna see?

Wasn't that exciting?  No?  Tell that to me while I was teetering at the top of a rickety old ladder priming that ugly, orangey pine.  I was very excited to see that stuff disappear.  That was yesterday.  Sorry for the picture quality, but it was very overcast all day.

It gets better today.  This is what I like to call the open cupboard concept.

Notice the scrolly wood valance thingy is gone over one opening.  The other will be getting knocked out too. Buh-bye, and good riddance.

Still not impressed?  Give me some time...like 14 days to be exact!  My son's graduation is in 16 days, and the last two days I will need to get all the last details ready for that.  Am I the only one who is more productive under pressure?

Ignore the dishes and general mess on the counters...I am.  It's either a clean house or project time.  It's all or nothing for me.  That's just the way I roll.  When the projects done, it will all get cleaned up.  Thank goodness my hubby does the dishes.  Well not all the time...but a lot.

I had a really productive day today.  It may not look like it, but step a little closer.  Take a peek.

What's that you ask?  Why dryer sheets of course.  I just love the smell of dryer sheets dried in the sun.  Okay, I'll fess up.  I set the nearly full box of dryer sheets on a pile on top of the dryer and they fell into the laundry sink and got soaked.  I know, I shouldn't have a pile on top of the dryer...but remember...the project.  So I spent a lovely bit in the great outdoors, soaking up sun, while drying my dryer sheets.  I could have thrown them away, but I'm just way too tight frugal for that.

The real down and dirty job today was power washing the decks, in preparation for staining.  Ummm...yeah, another project that has to be finished before the graduation.  I also power washed the plastic yard chairs.

Then it was time to fix dinner.  Fettucine Alfredo...yum.  What?  You don't use a drill to mix your food?  I know I'm a little unhinged, but this is ridiculous.  Those bags hold my hinges, carefully labeled for each cabinet door.  Don't worry, the drill didn't get buttered and no one found a screw in their supper.

Note:  those ugly counters are getting painted.  I ordered Giani countertop paint in bombay black...squeal!  I am so excited!  I also ordered stainless steel paint for the white dishwasher.  You won't know this kitchen when I'm done with it.

Of course we couldn't eat on the kitchen table, because I would have had to clear it off of cabinet doors, and you know...the project.  So we ate alfredo, alfresco.  I actually left the table in front of the back door, (there was a path), after moving it to power wash.  It was really heavy with that umbrella, and my back was killing me.  Hubby came to the rescue and dragged it over a bit.

Time to eat!

What?

Garden's Planted

I've been trying to get back to finishing up the ceiling. I still need to prime and paint. Everything else keeps getting in the way...like laundry, my business, running kids to and fro...you know, life.

Then our garden finally dried up enough to till it, so the boys and I spent about two hours getting it planted. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I really wanted to get it in tonight. I didn't take pictures because we were working like speed demons, and when we got done it was almost dark. But here's a picture from last year to give you an idea of the size.

It usually takes me almost all day to plant it by myself.  With the boys help, working as fast as we could we did her in a little over two hours.  I need to make them a really great meal don't ya think?  The ceiling is on tomorrow's list...hopefully!
